Overview:
The Jayankonda Cholapuram statue is a representation of Lord Adinath, an incarnation of the first, or Adinath Jain Tirthankar. This statue depicts Lord Adinath with both hands held together and sitting in the Kayotsarga posture. The statue, which was built on a platform made from white marble, is said to have been carved from a single stone. This beautiful monument, which stands majestically in all its grandeur, is a major tourist attraction and is a must visit if in Cholapuram. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The statue of Lord Adinath has four distinct features. One is the Junagadavara hoist that awaits the devotees in the gate outside the statue. Secondly, the 24 Teerthankaras are enshrined in the murals of the mandapa. Thirdly, a pond resembling the shape of a lotus flower is present in front of the main statue. Fourthly, the three-storeyed navagraha (Nine planets) temple, which is said to have been constructed by Lord Ramachandra, is also found here. The Jayankonda Cholapuram statue is one of the few statues in the world to have been made out of a single stone. The statue is also believed to possess some supernatural powers, which brings it more devotees and pilgrims.
